The 1970s was the decade where the old order of open rear buses and conductors really started to give way to the designs we are used to today, known as one person operated buses, where the boarding door is at the front and driver inspects the tickets. Whilst perhaps not as nostalgic for many as the earlier generations of vehicles as many now approach 40 years old their place as classics is becoming more widely recognised. We are lucky enough to have some landmark vehicles from this era such as the very first Metrobus built for London and Transport as well as the very last of the DMS class. Today their extra capacity over some of the older buses and their need for only one crew member makes the same commercial sense for booking them today as it did for the operators who brought them into service nearly four decades ago.
